The International Academy of Medical Acupuncture (IAMA) is an institute of higher learning dedicated to teaching physicians of all disciplines both the ancient as well as contemporary principles of Acupuncture. How those principles and procedures can be incorporated into a mainstream Western based practice is paramount.
The Academy has taught over 5,000 Fellowship graduates since 1973. To graduate from the Academy, a physician must complete courses in both ancient and current acupuncture studies and  upon completion, pass a most intense and  rigorous test.

The Diplomate status is confirmend to Fellowhip Doctors who have achieved additional training or have been recognized for work above and beyond the Fellowship status. Dr. Thomas was honored with his Diplomate award in 2009. He is one of twelve doctors in the state of Texas to hold this status.
